    Tour Details

Located between the towns of Algeciras and Tarifa, the Strait of Gibraltar Natural Park boasts many diverse habitats on land and in the sea. This unique area has it all; countryside, mountains, beaches, cliffs and lagoons, making it the perfect place for bird watching. Due to its geographical position between Europe and Africa, and the Atlantic Ocean and the Mediterranean Sea, the Strait of Gibraltar is a strategic point for migratory birds from both continents and is surely a place that no birdwatcher should miss.

Although many different groups of birds use this flyway, soaring birds are the most spectacular because of their impressive size and dramatic formation of enormous flocks of hundreds or even thousands of birds, such as Black Kites, White Storks and Honey Buzzards.

In this remarkable birding area, with such a variety sites available, our guides can always find the best conditions. Places such as Punta Carnero, Algarrobo, Punta Camorro and Cazalla watch points, Playa de Los Lances, Sierra de la Plata and Puerto de Facinas are great options.

    Target Birds
Booted Eagle, Short-toed Eagle, Egyptian Vulture, Griffon and Ruppell´s Vulture, Honey Buzzard, Black Stork and White Stork

Best time of the year: Spring and autumn

My wife and I had a fantastic day out with Manuel in the La Janda, near Tarifa.
Our goal was birds of prey and oh boy, Manuel came up trumps. Imperial Spanish Eagle, male Hen Harrier, Marsh Harriers, Booted and Bonelli’s Eagles, lots of vultures too.
We could have done some of the area ourselves and indeed did so after our trip but Manuel has access to areas within the La Janda that you are unable to get to because of locked gates.
His knowledge of the area, the birds and indeed where to find them was astonishing!
    Can’t wait to return.

Manuel, from Tarifa Birding, is an excellent guide. He knows where the birds are, is wonderfully informative and welcoming and you are guaranteed a great day out. Manuel also knows many other aspects of wildlife including butterflies and other insects.
